Like many of us grow up to become champions in life, we can only wonder what it might take to get there. After that was raised as a big race fan growing up, I discovered that I think it must be like a drivers championship. What kind of lifestyle they need? Sport is as emotionally and physically for the human body? More important is not how a champion? Thanks to a fantastic opportunity given to me of Team Sauber Red Bull Racing FormulaBMW International series, I was able to interview the young American Brook Johnston Racing wonderful from Laguna Beach, California. Johnston continued his career in this sport who are struggling for the numerous successes, including two International Karting Federation championships, a World Karting Association, a strong second season with Ferrari in North America in the GT class, and a advantage raced in Formula BMW International Championship Series. What is much morenot just the pure adrenaline, I had twenty years on the drivers questioned its continued success in racing.
Tom Dorris: So Brooke, I would ask about your experiences growing up in Southern California. Can you tell me a little 'of what grows in southern California, as it was for you to tell me something about your motivation for the sport as a child?
Brook Johnston: Um well I would certainly say that grow in the South –California was awesome. I was fortunate to grow up where I did and I did not find any other way. I was a bit 'to the beach, sports and motors run up and went to the bottom, like everything else since then.
Tom Dorris: Tell me something about your participation in this sport, and because she has assumed and enjoy the activities you participated?
Brook Johnston: Well, let's see … I was really on the beach normal things like skateboarding and surfing. But I also startedplaying football and baseball when I was very small. I started racing karts when I was like 12, and since then has been hooked on it. I also ran cross country and track in high school, while I continued to race karts and branch off in the race.
Tom Dorris: What was the spark and enthusiasm, as when you started running? You knew from the beginning that would end as a professional and to deepen sport?
Brook Johnston: Actually, Iwas not even sure at all. (Laughter). I thought it was funny and engaging. I like to go fast and are always competitive in everything I wanted to win more than anyone else has done. I did not really start to take seriously until my first pair of sponsors and would have won my first championship IKF.
Tom Dorris: Brook, tell me, how did the first two go-kart championships and achieve what your mind made you a winner when you started in this sport?
Brook Johnston: WellMy first two karting championships was no wind, and there was so much tough competition today. I remember the stars of tomorrow's race in Las Vegas, carting against people like Marco Andretti and Alex Barron. But I think my success and the victory should be attributed to my strong leadership and personality without fear. (Laughter). I would like to take the corners faster than everyone else, just because I was not really afraid of anything. It can not be afraid of this sport and what you really needdesire to win if you want to make the top.
Tom Dorris: So describe to me exactly as you did for the top and the path you took to get here?
Brook Johnston: Actually a lot of practice and come to the Resort daily. After karting, I had to teach a driving school for celebrities in a short time conversation. So I was asked to compete for half a season in the Barber Dodge Pro machine and then went to class in style with the American Le Mans Ferrari North America. It 'been a busyfirst years after the start, and when I asked to leave the Formula BMW International Program, I was so moved. I have to say that a lot of determination and hard work to achieve the high goals that I have what it takes.
Tom Dorris: To go off the beaten path here Brook, but I can understand that you are currently enrolled in college in northern California, and maintains his competitive career at the same time? How to play for you?
Brook Johnston: Oh man … hishard! (Sighs) Yes, I was attending UC Santa Cruz and was just loving it. I always wanted to get my degree and to have so many other interests in life. I enjoy racing and I'm still with my career, but I think I would be able to absorb another interest that came to my graduation. Currently, that interest in architecture, but who knows, may change. I just want to be busy and keep my goalshigh.
Tom Dorris: So, while you balance your career high intensity, and the school, you find yourself with free time and fun with other interests? I assume that now lives in Santa Cruz from?
Brook Johnston: Yes, I was actually living in a small beach town called Capitola. I love it is pretty cool. Um … I also do not really have too much free time on my hands, but I must say that I have some good friends who have supported me, a beautiful girl and my family. But if I had a couple of times when I just hang around with everyone and relax on the beach.
Tom Dorris: I find it incredible that all aspects of your life in balance can be used perfectly. Means that these statements and goals, like going to college in Santa Cruz is your career going on in the international Formula BMW series has helped?
Brook Johnston: Well I think they do. I think I just had a lot of pressure and stress taken away from me through the life of Santa Cruz. Itis a real pain, but if I had to fly for a weekend, a practice or race, to attend and then return to turn in homework or something. But I kind of put myself in that situation, and I plan to resign next year.
Tom Dorris: Great! Well what can you say that so far about the international Formula BMW series and the team of Sauber Red Bull Racing, tell me 'your successes so far this season with Sauber, Red Bull Racing.
SpruitJohnston: I must say Im pretty darn awakened to be here and to be able to Im Also in this series is in its first year, and not so much public attention completely, it was an amazing experience, and the whole program is great. Journey for locations world-famous F1 races on them are so smart to do so. When Marcus and Red Bull first came to me and asked me to run for their team, I was so moved. Sauber Red Bull is so great for me this season, and IIn fact I would like to thank for the perfect opportunity. Im currently in first place in the championship thanks to a fantastic team and sponsors, and has won two games so far. My goal is to home a championship for Sauber and Red Bull to help promote the U.S. Open-Wheel Racing internationally.
Tom Dorris: I heard that you strain the background for the American series has gone through. True? There is also speculation that can occur ifFormula One team next season. This is an option for you?
Brook Johnston: Yes, the series is very competitive compared to their country of each driver. Our team is American base and most of the fans and the public seems to criticize the American movement F1. His is not the greatest thing you want to listen like a leader, but we had a huge fan base and a lot of support from most of the teams in the series. It's actually kind of fuel me to work harder and show everyone that an Americancan.
Tom Dorris: E 'really be selected for next season's Formula One? And if so, what team?
Brook Johnston: Well, I tried to concentrate on my season here (Formula BMW International). I'm not so sure about my future quite yet, but I have many things to think about. Right now I'm only happy when I'm a.
Tom Dorris: Brook is a wonderful conversation, and an incredible story on the trip here. Thank you foryour time and for all that talk of a champion race car. Good luck with the rest of the season and I hope that we continue to succeed in the near future.
